PROGRAM NOTES In the second season of my composer-in-residence role at the Haddonfield Symphony, I suggested that a live musical fanfare would be classier than flicking the lights on and off as a signal that a performance is about to begin. Coincidentally, Alan Gilbert had just been announced as Music Director Designate following Maestro Arthur Cohn's retirement at the end of the season, and so the orchestra turned this into a formal commission in both conductors' honor. Fanfare for Two Trumpets is a 40-second herald that may be performed live (or pre-recorded over a PA system) to usher an audience to its seats. The Boston Symphony also used this piece for a special program in 2023. REVIEWS "Dorff's dynamic and articulation intentions are very clearly marked.
